Traditional agenda-setting research has convincingly demonstrated that the media's agenda influences the public's agenda in a somewhat linear fashion. Following from that, agenda-setting researchers are now investigating the attributes of culturally specific agendas. Their studies provide insight into what appears to be a complex process that may be affected by factors beyond those already documented. This paper similarly examines the intricate connections between media, specific events, and agenda-setting in Ghana. In this context it considers two specific events with significant sociocultural implications―events that were framed by the media to produce agenda-setting effects. The paper argues that the media's framing of those events provided their audience with certain ready-made patterns of cognition, thereby enhancing the possibility of agenda-setting.

The concept ―media education‖ is analyzed from the viewpoint of requirements of the information society epoch. This allowed to define its specific essence and identify its status in the categorical and conceptual system of education. Background Although the popularity of ruins has accompanied Western modernity in waves since the eighteenth century, the post-9/11 decade marks a notable resurgence of the imagery, aesthetics, and rhetoric of ruins, especially in American culture. This article was completed a few months prior to the global COVID-19 crisis. Analysis While many scholars dismiss contemporary forms of ruin gazing as a mindless fascination with disaster and destruction in its virtual circulation, the author contends that this contemporary imaginary has significant political and social implications. Conclusion and implications Although each geographic site of ruination has its own social, political, and historical specificity, the author draws /rom Cornelius Castoriadis' psychosocial extension of Lacanian theory to designate a broader iconographic and discursive trend in American culture whereby the imagery and rhetoric of destruction contributes to what he calls the "social imaginary of ruination."

Background: The Canadian government allocated $595 million in subsidies over five
years to news media in 2019, but the bailout was based on questionable data. Financial
losses were exaggerated; a think tank report was criticized for using data selectively; data
from a university research project differed sharply from annual industry counts; and job
loss figures were disputed.
Analysis: Hard data can diverge markedly from soft data accepted in pursuit of policy
outcomes.
Conclusions and implications: A second campaign under way on behalf of entertainment
industries could yield a bailout several times larger than the first. Closer scrutiny
should be exercised of media narratives and offered data. An independent media research
centre should collect and verify data for policy purposes.

The Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) was established under the Central Intelligence Agency in 1941 to monitor and translate foreign media (newspapers, periodicals, radio, television). The Open Source Center (OSC) now continues the work of the FBIS, to "ensure that the Intelligence Community maximizes the use of publicly available, foreign print, radio, television, and Internet news and information".
The FBIS Daily Reports, printed from 1941 to 1996, have been the USA's principal record of political and historical open source intelligence; they are reports of events as they occurred from a local perspective (Readex).

Do the mass media deliver what contemporary democracies require? This fundamental research question has been discussed for many decades and the body of literature is firmly rooted in the debate following from the Hutchins Commission 1947. In more recent years, monitoring of the relations between democracy and the mass media has concentrated on new or democracies in transition. Fewer monitoring efforts have been undertaken in mature democracies. The following text develops a social science based monitoring instrument for established democracies, the Media for Democracy Monitor (MDM). It has been developed at the University of Zurich and tested in five European countries (Germany, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Portugal, and Switzerland)

Mass media frequently makes use of more than visuality. With the exception of music, however, media geographers have largely ignored audio media despite its major impact on shaping and characterizing our experience of the world. We address this lacuna by exploring the world's most successful audioplay series, "The Three Investigators". Our approach is informed by Schafer's acoustic ecology, which suggests soundscapes are made legible through keynote, signal and soundmark. We find additional key sound events for the creation of soundscapes in "The Three Investigators" are the storyteller, dialogue and soundframe. Using content analysis and results from an audio-integrated online survey, we examine how the everyday world can be both generated and generalized, and, explore the reception and effectiveness of this popular cultural medium. Due to the audioplay's locus within the detective story genre, five settings or places of action are identified - independent location, headquarters, place of solution, and scene of discovery or consecutive place of discovery. These settings are signified through the presence, absence or synchronicity of specific sound events. We find that the structure of the sounds and noise must be understandable to the listener because it is his ability to associate sounds with certain types of settings that enables him to complete background noise with his imagination. Simplified sounds may even increase auditory legibility if they can be connected to the listener's cognitive structure. Indeed, a drastically reduced representation based on generalized sound events likely facilitates the understanding of narrative content and therefore, the world itself.Digital Object Identifier http://dx.doi.org/10.3112/erdkunde.2010.04.06

The Journalism.org web site is the information portal for the Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism (PEJ). The goal of PEJ, according to this web site, is to aid journalists and citizens toward a "better understanding of what the press is delivering, how the media are changing, and what forces are shaping those changes". As a part of the Pew Research Center, the PEJ operates as a nonpartisan and non-ideological "fact tank" utilizing polling and empirical measures to analyze media content.
